The Medix School – West's Medical Assisting program will train you in a variety of medical office procedures and laboratory techniques, such as:
- Administering injections and EKGs
- Taking vital signs
- Urinalysis and phlebotomy
- Assisting in minor surgery and emergency situations
- Processing insurance claims
- Transcription and computer billing
The Medical Assisting program can be completed in just nine months. The program consists of 760 total clock hours and includes medical assisting courses like:
- Computer Software Applications
- Essentials of Human Anatomy
- Fundamentals of Health Care Administration
- Fundamentals of Patient Care
- Selected Topics in Clinical Procedures
Upon successful completion of these courses, you will participate in a 160-hour practical externship. Your externship will be in a clinic, laboratory, physician's office or hospital. You and one other student will pair with a professional externship coordinator. The coordinator will evaluate your skills to help you train in a real-world setting.
As a graduate of the Medical Assisting program, you will be qualified to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant Exam (RMA) offered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
