The Radiologic Technologist program is designed to give the student the skills for an entry-level position as a radiologic technologist. Our radiology technician training teaches students to take X-rays and administer contrast agents for diagnostic purposes. After positioning the patient, they produce X-ray images (called radiographs) of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems. They prepare the patient by explaining the procedure and having the patient remove jewelry and other items that block X-rays. They also position the patient and imaging equipment into the optimal positions to obtain the best images while utilizing radiation protection devices to limit radiation exposure to the patients and themselves.
Program goals and student learning outcomes:
- Clinical competence – Students will learn to apply positioning skills, select technical factors and utilize radiation protection
- Effective communication – Students will demonstrate oral and written communication skills
- Critical thinking – Students will adapt standard procedures for non-routine patients. They will also critique images to determine diagnostic quality
- Professionalism – Students will demonstrate professionalism and understand the value of professional ethics
